Enjoying embroidery

I did cross-stitch in fourth grade art class. Cross-stitch and embroidery are different in their own ways, but they’re the same idea. You take a needle and sew one side, then the other. Simple.

I had embroidery for my afterschool, and was very excited. I have an embroidery ladybug kit that Nana gave to me as a gift, and I was excited to be able to learn to make it, so I joined embroidery.

I’ve learned three different stitches: a running stitch, a back stitch and a satin stitch.

A running stitch is the line with spaces in between. It skips over spots.

The back stitch is the straight line. You follow the steps of a running stitch, but then you go back and fill the spaces.

Finally, we have a satin stitch. Satin stitches are used for covering up lots of spaces in embroidery. I filled a circle, and I‘d like to fill the heart with satin stitches.

I loved embroidery, and can’t wait for the next session!
